Libyan Mine Action Center Highlights Achievements and Launches National Strategy 2027–2031

Under the joint leadership of the Libyan Mine Action Center and the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), the regular coordination meeting of implementing partners was held in Tripoli with the participation of representatives from embassies, diplomatic missions, and international and local organizations. The meeting focused on reviewing progress in the implementation of the Libyan Mine Action Program.
The session highlighted key achievements, including the clearance of 126,385 square meters of contaminated land, the completion and handover of 11 sites confirmed free of hazards, and the safe removal of 42,675 explosive remnants of war. In addition, mine risk education activities reached more than 42,000 individuals across affected communities.
The Center also presented the National Mine Action Strategy for 2027–2031, which serves as a roadmap for the next phase. The strategy aims to strengthen national efforts in clearance operations, mine risk education, victim assistance, capacity building, and information management, pending submission to the relevant authorities for formal adoption.
Participants discussed the main challenges facing mine action operations and explored ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between national institutions and international partners. The discussions emphasized the importance of sustaining efforts to protect civilians, support affected communities, and link mine action with humanitarian and development initiatives, thereby contributing to a safe environment that fosters stability, development, and reconstruction.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Libyan Mine Action Center expressed its appreciation to all partners and supporting entities for their continued collaboration, reaffirming the importance of joint action to achieve humanitarian and national objectives in this vital field.
