As part of its humanitarian and national commitment to raising awareness and strengthening prevention efforts against the dangers of mines and explosive remnants of war, the Libyan Mine Action Centre (LibMAC) marked the 13th annual International Day for Mine Awareness under the theme: “Safe Futures Start Here.”
This day is an important occasion to highlight the challenges faced by those affected by mine and explosive remnants of war contamination. It also represents an opportunity to renew the call for joint action between local and international partners to ensure a safe future that contributes to stability and sustainable development.
Welcome Remarks and Partner Solidarity:
At the beginning of the event, the Director of the Center, Brigadier General Khalil Abdulsalam Al-Shabli, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and commended the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity, represented by the Director of the Office of the Minister of Defense, confirming the official interest in this vital issue. He also thanked all donors and supporting countries for their support for humanitarian work, as well as the participating guests, including Libyan army officers, diplomatic representatives, United Nations missions, and international and local organizations working in the humanitarian field, praising their effective role in reducing the risks of this scourge.
A Vision for a Mine-Free Future:
This event reminded everyone that community safety begins with awareness and cooperation. It called for redoubled efforts to achieve a homeland free of the threats posed by mines and explosive remnants of war, enabling its people to live in safety and security, and contributing to building a better tomorrow for future generations.
On this occasion, the Center renews its commitment to continuing its humanitarian mission and expresses its hope to strengthen effective partnerships to save lives and protect communities.
