Workshop on Comprehensive Victim Assistance in Libya
On Wednesday and Thursday, August 12–13, 2026, a workshop on Comprehensive Victim Assistance in Libya was held, jointly organized by the Libyan Mine Action Center (LibMAC) and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), with the participation of representatives from several ministries and government bodies, as well as international and local organizations concerned with the issue.
The workshop opened with welcoming remarks delivered by the Director of LibMAC, the Head of the Human Rights Office at the Ministry of Defense, and a representative of DRC. The opening speeches highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among the various stakeholders to improve victim assistance services in Libya.
The sessions addressed several key themes in the field of victim assistance, most notably:
- Activating multi-sectoral coordination structures.
- Strengthening referral pathways for victim assistance services to ensure more effective access for those affected.
- Enhancing mechanisms for coordination and information-sharing among relevant entities.
The workshop also served as a platform for exchanging experiences and discussing challenges and opportunities related to the development of the victim assistance system, contributing to greater integration across sectors and improving the quality of services provided.
This workshop comes as part of joint efforts aimed at reinforcing national coordination among stakeholders and supporting the establishment of a comprehensive and sustainable system for assisting victims of mines and remnants of war in Libya, thereby enhancing the response to victims’ needs and improving the assistance services available to them.
