Under the direction of the Chief of General Staff, and with the participation of a select group of military and technical leaders, a coordination meeting was held at the headquarters of the Libyan Mine Action Center (LibMAC) to develop a comprehensive operational plan for the transfer, storage, and destruction of large quantities of ammunition stored at the Artillery School in Khallet al-Furjan, a move aimed at enhancing public safety and security.
This meeting was the culmination of a series of official procedures, beginning with a recommendation from the Director of the Libyan Mine Action Center, which the Director of the Office of the Minister of Defense subsequently approved. The recommendation was then forwarded to the Chief of Staff, who issued direct instructions for the operation’s implementation.
Where the meeting was attended by high-level military and Technical personnel. The meeting was widely represented by all relevant stakeholders, including:
- Director of the Libyan Mine Action Center
- Director of the Military Engineering Department
- Chairman of the Supreme Technical Committee
- Director of the Military Industrialization Authority.
- Member and Rapporteur of the Supreme Technical Committee.
- Director of Operations of the Libyan Center.
- Several members of the Supreme Technical Committee.
Meeting Outcomes: A Three-Stage Operational Plan, where the attendees made crucial decisions to carry out the mission with professionalism and safety:
- Transportation and Security Phase: All munitions will be transported to a secure and equipped site at Camp (47) in the Al-Sabeah area, affiliated with the Military Industrialization Authority, for storage under heavy guard.
- Sorting and Evaluation Phase: Serviceable and questionable munitions will be temporarily stored in designated warehouses, with specialized technical committees formed to examine and assess their condition in detail at a later time to determine their fate.
- Safe Destruction Phase: Unusable munitions will be transported to approved detonation sites under the direct and joint supervision of the Military Engineering Department and the Libyan Mine Action Center. All necessary security and logistical measures and arrangements will be taken in full cooperation with security and intelligence agencies to ensure the success of the operation and the safety of citizens.
