Following the clashes that occurred in Tripoli between May 12 and May 14, 2025, several areas within the city\u2014including former military positions\u2014were contaminated with explosive remnants of war. In response, the Libyan Mine Action Center (LibMAC) initiated a comprehensive plan to identify and clear these hazardous zones, as part of its humanitarian mission to protect civilians and restore safety.
LibMAC prioritized contaminated areas located within residential neighborhoods and vital public facilities. As part of this effort, a task order was issued to Free Fields Organization to conduct non-technical surveys in Abu Salim Municipality. During the assessment, a former military position was identified within the vicinity of Tripoli Zoo, a key public landmark.
Specialized teams worked to define the boundaries of the contaminated land and determine the type of explosive hazards present. Subsequently, a battle area clearance task order was issued, and operations commenced using qualified and trained teams under the supervision of LibMAC\u2019s Quality Management Unit. These efforts are part of an ongoing strategy to reduce risk and ensure a secure environment for the residents of Tripoli.<\/p>\n\n\n
