In a strategic step toward enhancing technical and institutional coordination within Libya’s Mine Action Programme, a foundational meeting was held on July 16, 2025, bringing together all key stakeholders to establish a clear framework and form two specialized committees tasked with reviewing and updating the Libyan National Mine Action Standards.
Participating Entities:
The meeting was attended by representatives from national and international institutions, including:
- Libyan Mine Action Centre (LibMAC)
- Ministry of Defense
- United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS)
- Military Engineering Department
- Criminal Investigation Agency
- National Safety Authority
Additionally, representatives from international and national organizations operating within the Libyan Mine Action Programme participated, including:
- DCA
- Halo Trust
- Free Fields Foundation (3F)
- Libyan Peace Organization (LPO)
- Trusted Aid for Development (TAD)
Meeting Objectives:
The meeting focused on establishing a practical framework for reviewing and updating Libya’s National Mine Action Standards to ensure alignment with international standards and responsiveness to Libya’s specific needs. Key outcomes included:
- Formation of a Supervisory Committee composed of national and international representatives to guide and oversee the process
- Formation of a Technical Committee responsible for the detailed technical review and development of the standards
