A delegation from the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) visited the Libyan Mine Action Centre (LibMAC) in Tripoli on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 to congratulate the new Director of the Centre, Brigadier General Khalil Al-Shibli, on assuming his duties, and to reaffirm the UN’s continued support for the Centre’s efforts to clear mines and remnants of war in Libya.
During the visit, the UNMAS delegation met with Brigadier General Khalil Al-Shibli and officials at the Centre, where they discussed the latest developments in the field of mine clearance in Libya, the challenges facing the Centre, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.
The UNMAS delegation expressed its best wishes to the new Director in his duties, stressing the importance of the role played by the Libyan Mine Action Centre in protecting civilians and supporting development efforts in the country, stressing that the UNMAS will continue to provide support to the Libyan Centre to enable it to achieve its goals.
For his part, Brigadier General Khalil Al-Shabli expressed his appreciation for the visit of the United Nations delegation, and the international organization’s congratulations to him on assuming his new position, stressing that this support will contribute significantly to accelerating the pace of mine clearance in Libya, and clearing the country of war remnants.
Brigadier General Khalil Al-Shabli also stressed the Libyan Center’s commitment to working seriously and sincerely to achieve its goals of making Libya a safe country free of mines and war remnants, expressing his aspiration for close cooperation with the United Nations and the international community to achieve these goals.
